Porvoo Campus is a new kind of learning and competencies centre currently being built on Porvoo’s west bank. Natural light and versatile use of space Designed by Siren Architects Ltd and furnished by Sistem Ltd, Porvoo Campus represents new thinking and space utilisation. According to architect Jukka Siren from Siren Architects Ltd, one starting point for the architecture of the building was using the natural light. “Daylight pours in from above and brings together the spaces on three floors to a continuum. The entry hall can host spectacular events: the stairs and the balconies form a sort of an amphitheater around the aula and with modern technology high class performances can be held. Flexible space planning gives optimal versatility of facilities in order to foster group work and communicative learning", Siren sums up. ”We wanted to build a Campus that inspires to independent thinking, mutual learning and cross border projects ",”The cooperation with architects and designers has been very smooth right from the start. We have not had to make any notable compromises concerning the final result”, comments Lis-Marie Enroth-Niemi, director at HAAGA-HELIA's unit in Porvoo. The Campus project’s building developer is Kiinteistö Oy Porvoon Campus, main designer Siren Architects Ltd and main contractor YIT Rakennus Oy. Devecon Projektinjohto Oy has acted building consultant. The construction work of Porvoo Campus started in June 2009. The building will have four floors and a total area of around 9000 square meters. Art competition for local artists Koy Porvoon Campus arranges an art competition in order to find a piece of art for the entry hall of Porvoo Campus.
